The Autumn continued to change the Woods of Than, the leaves had already turned to a violent shade of orange and brown, the Lord Fenrick of Ricard Hall and his company were riding down the road.
The Lord was astride his horse "Lord Arran, Tell me of this Wood, i've never ventured here before", Lord Arran rode faster to reach him with delight "With pleasure my lord, these Woods are older than Goldenhold itself according to the Farmers, although the Foresters say the Wood was planted when Ricard Hall was built near 800yrs ago"
Lord Fenrek smiled "The trees seem too orderly in a grid to be that old, i'd put my gold on when the Hall was built" he panned his view around, the Woodland's trees seemed to fit into such a perfect grid, nearly too perfect.
"I wouldn't be so quick to hand out coin my Lord, the common folk and even some Scholars have argued that the Woods were inhabited by the Old-Men, but then again some claim the Woods were planted in a grid to please the Gods somehow, maybe as some sort of Monument"
"A Monument?" replied Fenrek
"Yes my Lord, there have been gridded sites like this all over the World, most are not as obvious but there are some"
"I hear the Arc's Valley has a gridded land, the Farmers grow their crops on the blocks"
"They are not a Monument however Lord Fenrek, they were dug when the Arc was built to act as a way of keeping the Lands watered for crops"
The Lord smiled "You seem to have an understanding of Ancient History Lord Arran, did you study it at the Guild?"
"I studied a deal of subjects including Ancient History, i also delved into Alchemy, Herbalism and the Mathematical subjects in my 6 long years."
Lord Fenrek looked shocked "6 years? i could barely last 2 years of education in Ricard Hall..."
"Some things are expect of people my Lord, i decided at a young age that i wouldn't stand for being a mere peasant on the streets of Helldon, the Master Scholar said i was a noble child born a peasant"
"I admire your dedication, i was born and Noble and i hope to die a Noble"
"Oh my Lord Fenrek, you never know what happens in Life, some say the Gods roll a dice each year, the lower the number, the worse a year"
"I wonder what happens if you get a one"
"You die my lord" and they rode on in silence.
