**THIS IS AN EARLY COPY OF THE DRAGON CHAPTER, IT WILL BE CHANGED**
Lord Dayel of House Harkinshire poured himself wine, the summer winds were pleasantly warm “Well Lord Arran, what did i tell you from the beginning?” He sat uneasy in his chair, the news from the South had unsettled him “I was wrong my Lord Harkinshire, a man must be wrong occasionally” he poured himself a cup and sat opposite Dayel.
“It is normal to be wrong about an appointment, wrong about someone’s name but not about something as deadly and as real as Dragons”, Dayel has suddenly lost his tastes and slammed the cup down.
the Knight sipped the wine and looked unsettled as the Lord “I am sorry my Lord—” Lord Harkinshire had a hint of fury in his eyes which Arran feared “Sorry? Sorry does not bring back the burnt dead!”
He stood up in fury and continued “Sorry doesn’t bring back the men i sent East who burnt as they slept”, Lord Arran couldn’t look at his eyes “I have always been correct in matters my Lord, but these Dragons came upon us by surprise, their invasion of Grimalore baffled even my Watchmen”
Lord Dayel’s temper snapped.
“Dragons are burning Villages, Towns and Farms, Peasants burn in their Huts same as the Lord of Ricard Hall did even in his Halls of Stone” he blasted.
He could have gone on more about the Dragons, but as he opened his mouth to reply, a ear breaking roar came from outside “What was that?” the Lord asked, even 300 foot up the Castle Keep, the sound reached him. it sounded not natural to his ears, Lord Arran walked to the Balcony “My Lord!—” another roar blocked Arran’s reply but the message was clear.
it was Dragons.
the massive city below was suddenly licked with fire from a black creature gliding across the sky.
Another roar erupted and Lord Arran was blasted back by fire, 2 more great 40-foot beasts were on the Castle Walls, they climbed and chipped the wall as they ascended.
Another strip of the City was licked with fire. Screams and cries filled the air as well as Smoke and fresh Ash.
Lord Dayel was frozen in fright, the Dragons had broken the King’s Tower and it fell. the massive tower shattered the Castle Wall closely missing Dayel’s balcony.
With a sudden dash he felt himself being pushed towards his Chamber’s Doors by Arran “Come on my Lord, we have to get out!” he didn’t have a choice, before be knew it he was half way down the corridor with Arran at his side.
through their run down the many stairs and Corridors, they saw what devastation had been caused. the Library was ablaze. the Courtyard below had been smothered with the collapsed King’s Tower. the City of Goldenhold was devastated by the 5 Dragons.
The ground floor of Goldenhold Castle was the worst. Blood and rubble mixed together like some dark product all over the floor. they dared not escape through the front gate, they saw fire consume the gate and the useless effort to barricade it, and those involved. Dayel’s mind was swimming “Where—are—we—going?” he asked Arran between breaths “Through the Throne room, there is a tunnel through the back of the Throne to the Docks south of the Castle” he didn’t need to hear anymore as the hope of surviving was thrilling to him.
The Throneroom was empty, the screams of outside were like a faint whisper. Flames had engulfed most of the precious statues and many of the paintings. they jumped and climbed past most of the caved in roof to the golden jewelled Throne “Where is this tunnel?” he asked Arran but he did not answer, his face was dead set on the room behind them “What is it?” he asked. Arran’s mouth shook as he replied “Deadfires…” he whispered and they both backed against the Throne.
the Fires in the Room burnt brighter than ever, small humanoid creatures climbed from the rubble, their flesh and bones burnt orange with flame as if it kept them alive. their skin was black and cracked and they hunched over on the floor.
Dayel counted 20, 25, 40 the Number grew as the Fires burned brighter. the Window around them burned red and even more Deadfires clambered through. He backed against the Throne and suddenly the Throne was gone. Instead he mindlessly back into a hole, before he knew it he was surrounded by black and he seemed to be falling. All of a sudden, he crashed.
