Alanah woke up in a jolt, so fast her glasses flung to the snowy ground “Jesus.” she gasped as the cold suddenly hit her, flakes of falling snow fell onto her hair. meer moments ago she was in a warm place but now she could barely cope with the cold. each flake which landed on her made her colder.
A voice came from beside her “Finally you are awake, i feared you had gone beyond my aid.” Alanah got a shock from the calm voice, right beside her she saw a campfire and a long haired man. he looked middle aged but with several greys in his hair. His kindly smile widened when Alanah asked who he was. “I am Jaur of the House Than at your service. Do come sit close to the fire, the snow has been this thick for weeks.” he did not lie, the snow had indeed reached her knees. she looked around and saw the lower branches of trees buried in snow and mountains which could barely be seen through the thick snow.
“Please girl, sit by the fire, i will answer you what i expect you will ask.” she didn’t trust the man but the cold forced her to sit opposite him with the fire between them.
Alanah began “Where am i?” her voice was chattering with her teeth, Jaur warmed his hands on the fire “You are in the Plains outside the Arc. Normally you would see the Walls of the Fortress to the north” he pointed to a pair of mountains, she couldn’t make out them well but she saw a colossal wall which looked near 500 foot high stretching across the two “The Arc is the greatest Fortress in the World and indeed one of the last safe haven too.” his eyes drifted into a long stare at the Wall. Alanah pressed another question “But where am i?” he chuckled silently under his breath “So many questions, good thing we can’t go anywhere for while. As for your question it will be hard to explain. where did you come from?” he looked at her dead in the eyes but no fear or threat could be seen in them, Alanah replied “I was in my classroom at College. Lakes College.” he looked confused for a moment but quickly understood “Ahhh yes i know now. I have been told you come from another place. You must understand however, that place is so far away even if you walked for the rest of your life three times over you would never reach it.” she gasped slightly and a rush of bad thoughts and sad images flashed in her head.
a trickle of warm tear came down her face “Do not cry girl.” his voice was so kind, she put her face into her cold hands “You may return home one day. as for where that will be i cannot say. I am sorry.” she began to cry softly into her hands “Why would this happen to me… why…” she muttered.
Jaur poked the fire with a rod making it slightly warming “Girl you shouldn’t be sad and tearful. You are not alone you know. Your Friends are here too.” her face stood up straight to face him, her mouth was open “Where?” she sniffed and wiped her eyes.
“Your Friends are here somewhere. there are a group of people like me out to find them. although we cannot see them for awhile. we must go South into warmer Lands”.
Alanah suddenly felt slightly more happy but still the tears rained down her face and dropped into ice.
Jaur smiled at her “Be strong girl. you are much stronger than you think. much stronger”.
